Uncle Sharon Byez3al Ba3dain!

I have the habit of visiting Imad Hajjaj website from time to time to get myself out of the books and journals sink for few moments, probably because I don’t want to totally loose my Jordanian sense of humour and replace it with an English one, which is an obsolete medieval-age kind of humour that never brought a laugh or even a shy smile to me or any of my Arab colleagues or friends. Another reason could be that I don’t want to end up, after finishing my PhD, a typical Electrical Engineering university lecturer who sees a smile in the class as a great sin!
Anyway, going back to Hajjaj, my most favourite section to browse is the Censored Cartoons. It’s a legacy that all newspapers with whom Emad worked maintained and fully respected, starting with Alrai, Addustour and still carried on very well by Al-Ghad. Thanks God Emad never gave up and his unpublished work archive is getting bigger and bigger; at least I’ll have something to laugh at while in the exile!

O ba3dain! Someone should remind me not to change the topic every once and then. Elmohem, frankly speaking, I don’t always agree with what Emad draws, especially when he disconcerns the conservative nature of the Jordanian culture, and in such cases I can understand the decision of an editor to reject a cartoon. But what I saw today went very far beyond any excuses to explain the rejection of one of Emad’s latest masterpieces. Have a look below (or click here)!

Few years ago, it was a pride for someone to swear at the bloodthirsty murderer who committed the massacres of Al-Bureij refugees’ camp, Qibya, Nahhalin, Kherbat Janba, and the unforgotten Sabra and Shatila massacre. At least someone would be able to express his/her condemnation to this bloody idiot’s crimes. It seems that government instructions to avoid any disrespecting phrases insulting figures from our sister and friend states have been now extended to include Israel and its PM Ariel Sharon.
I know that while the Jordanian government sees no chances to turn back and cancel the peace agreement with Israel, many Jordanian individuals and institutions still refuse to accept the agreement and insist to consider it questionable. Nevertheless, what should never be questionable is our agreement and unity as Jordanians in condemning Sharon’s crimes throughout his brutal history and even campaigning in support of the prosecution of Sharon at the International Criminal Court; although I can’t see myself accepting such a fait behind the bars for such a devil’s fat baby boy.
What Sharon’s evil brain needs isn’t a toilet plunger, as the dirt would still stick on the rubber. What such a brain needs, in deed, is not less than a controlled explosion -for the brain only- after which Sharon should be a totally different and innocent person hopefully; this is of course if “it” is to remain alive after the explosion!
